Kirtland, Ohio

After our fun in Erie, Pa we took the short drive to Kirtland, Ohio to the Church History site. There we were able to see where the early pioneers lived and built the first Temple. Even though the Community of Christ owns the Temple now, it was great to go inside and hear all the history about the first temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day-Saints.

In the store there were fun things for the kids to look and and learn about the Prophet.

The Newel K. Whitney Store served as the
home of Joseph and Emma Smith between September
1832 and February 1834. Joseph Smith III
was born here on November 6, 1832. The store
served as the headquarters of The Church of Jesus
Christ of Latter-day Saints during the time that the Smith family lived here.

Many significant events occurred here including
the organization of the School of the
Prophets, the First Presidency receiving the keys
of the kingdom, and receiving of the Word of
Wisdom, Doctrine and Covenants Section 89.
It was wonderful to feel the spirit there and get an idea of what the early pioneers sacrificed for us.

After a great day in Kirtland we ate at the BEST Mexican restaurant and rolled ourselves out the door and into our nice comfortable beds at the hotel.
Another perfect day on our Thanksgiving weekend trip.
